Busy, busy

Yesterday was a very busy work day. My client in Arizona made a change to their system that caused a bunch of inventory transactions to zero out the cost. I spent most of the day and evening recovering the costs so that they could be posted correctly. Accountants are funny about wanting their data to be accurate.

It felt good to get it done, but it was a painful process of a combination of SQL script updates to the data where possible and manual updates where automation was not possible. The really good part about all of this is that I was able to do it all from California and clearly demonstrate to them that I don't have to be at their office to get things done.

Comments:
Not so much a fragile database as the way that the data was converted. It was started by someone else and I took over and continued the basic path that was selected. In hindsight, a start-over approach would have been better. Oh well, definitely much too late for that now.
