My marriage is old enough to drink...

We got married 21 years ago today. If the marriage was a person, it would now be of legal drinking age. My wife was 21 when we got married, so she has been married for half of her life now!

Hayley made us a hand-drawn Anniversary Card. She also made a little game around finding the card. Mom was out signing up for Girl Scout Cookie Booth sales dates and locations, so I did the game/hunt myself. Hayley was very gleeful watching me go up and down stairs following the notes of clues that she left around the house. She snuck away when I was close to the end. It ended with me finding where she was hiding where she gave me the card and a big hug. Mom missed out on that!

Wow, 21 years. That seemed to go fast.

Blogging for over a year...

I just noticed that it was Feb 10 of last year when Shoo convinced me to start this blog. Wow, that went fast. It's sometimes really easy to decide what to write about and sometimes takes me some time to come up with a topic. I can't do the simple few sentences every day that Tim does -- but I like the fact that I can count on daily updates from him. When I do write I find that I have a lot to say, but I try to keep it somewhat brief.

My main goal when I started this was to document some of our funny family stories. I have not been as successful as I would like at this, but I do have a few that I definitely want to keep track of.

I am concerned about the direction that blogger.com is going. They seem to be pushing a new direction of requiring a google account to connect to the blog. I have too many accounts and passwords now. I really don't want another. If they require that then I may have to find another option for blogging or maybe just stop. Anyone else on blogger.com have a similar concern?

I've enjoyed keeping up with everyone else through the blogs. The combination of humor, personal notes, and even political commentary/debate are all interesting. Thanks to all of you for sharing!

Sudoku

I had heard of the number game Sudoku for a while, but had not paid any attention to it. I finally tried it for the first time on vacation last April (see my April 25, 2006 "Vacation" Blog entry). The family was on our way home from vacation on the East Coast. On the flight, we got a boxed snack. The box included a Sudoku puzzle. Hayley and I sat there and worked it out together. We had fun with it and went on to do some more puzzles in the airline magazine. I don't play it much, but it is a nice diversion once in a while when I am looking for a mild challenge.

I included a Sudoku link to an online version in my link section to the left. This is mainly there as a quick link when I want to play. I could put it in my browser favorites, but I decided to use this as a chance to remember how to add links to the blog.

CPR / First Aid

It's been a while since my last CPR and First Aid certification. Probably around 3 years -- definitely overdue. This past weekend I attended a course and found that CPR in particular had changed substantially from before. Glad I went. The girls have a Volleyball league coming up and I am one of the First Aid volunteers. On top of that, I need the certifications as a leader for Girl Scout and Boy Scout outings.

The instructor is someone that I met through Boy Scouts. He was one of the Asst. Scoutmasters in the troop. He is a registered nurse and has been certified for CPR and First Aid training for many years. He is both knowledgable and an effective teacher -- a nice combination. Celeste of course knows him too and had arranged this training for local Girl Scout leaders.

We all have things that we do to make it feel like we are making a difference in the world. This is one of mine.
