Wow, the month has flown by!
I have been at customer sites almost constantly this month, so I have not had much free time. Here are a few brief notes about this month.
Last weekend we had a BBQ to celebrate Andrew's high school graduation. This was held just in time since he started school yesterday. He is attending Fullerton College because he likes their theatre program.
We registered Bethany for 8th grade today. She got the picture taken, paperwork turned in, and her tentative class schedule.
Hayley starts our family's first organized sport soon: Volleyball. We had an orientation meeting last weekend. I will be helping as an asst. coach and first aid provider -- at least when I can be there.
Right now I am in a hotel room in Valencia, CA. The girls (mom and 2 girls) decided to come up with me, so I am typing this very quietly to not wake them up. :-)

Baby Andrew Giggling
I heard one of the girls giggling a few days ago and it reminded me of this story. One of my goals with this Blog is to help me remember stories like this, so this is more for me than for anyone else reading it. If you enjoy it, then we have a win-win.
When Andrew was born, we lived in a 2 level townhouse. At the top of the stairs, we had a sliding wooden door to keep the kids upstairs (or at least the one kid we had at the time) when we did not want them to go down. However, we didn't have anything similar at the bottom.
This story occurs when Andrew is old enough to crawl but not walk. Maybe 6 months old? He was definitely old enough to understand that he was NOT ALLOWED to crawl on the stairs without a parent helping him.
On this particular day, Mom was really tired. It was mid-day and she decided to cuddle with Andrew on the livingroom floor downstairs and have him take a nap. Andrew seemed cooperative.
The next thing Mom knew, she was waking up to the sound of giggling. At first she wasn't sure what woke her up (or why she had fallen asleep). Then she heard some rustling and more giggling. Andrew was up a few steps on the staircase. As he went up a step, he would stop and giggle.
The boy learned to push limits at a young age. He just hadn't gotten the concept of stealth.

Bethany turns 13!
Today is Bethany's 13th birthday. We woke her up a few minutes before 8:39am (her birth time) and joked around about "simulating" the birth process by having her come out of her covers at the right time. We even offered to soak her with water to add to the realism. We didn't take it beyond that. Hayley (the younger sister) was really excited about waking her up in this way, so it was mostly for her benefit.
She is planning several fun events with friends over the next few days -- including a sleepover on Friday night followed by breakfast at a pancake breakfast fundraiser for an older girl scout friend.
I now have 2!! teenagers in the house. Two sources of all information that there is to know. How cool is that?
I was talking to Andrew recently about the "teenagers know everything" concept. I explained that as he leaves his teenage years his level of knowledge will be dropping and instead his intelligence will get to come through unfettered by "knowing everything". I described the "know everything" concept as an eclipse in front of his intelligence. It is certainly driven by intelligence, but it blocks out the full effect of intelligence just as the moon can block out the effect of the sun. I like the eclipse concept and joke around with him about it a lot now.
Anyway, happy birthday to Bethany!
