Remembering a Formula
Bethany was studying for a test and trying to remember the formula for the circumference of a circle. She had the area formula down just fine (Pi x radius squared). However, she couldn't remember the circumference (i.e., length of the outside edge).
The formula is the 2 x Pi x radius (represented as the letter r).
She has worked well with remembering things through silly associations before. Based on this, we came up with one for this.
A good friend of hers is Rachael. I told her to think about Rachael holding two pies and nibbling around the edges of them.

tell her to do what i do. the circumference formula is the derivative of the area formula with respect to radius.
The thing that gets me is that it was "recommended" that Trevor have a $100 calculator to do graphing calculations at high school.
To me, "recommended" didn't mean "required" but it really was. If he tries to do the calculations by hand, it will take him too long to figure out, and he will run behind in assignments.
You're even allowed to take this calculator to do your SAT test (for Trevor, June 3rd).
I'm pretty sure the people who developed the formulas didn't use these caluculators, but maybe they had nice abacuses (abaci?).
