Remote Control Car

Hayley wanted a remote control car for her birthday. I remember getting a remote control car as a kid. Don't get me wrong, it was fun to get one. However, it wasn't what I expected. The car that I got went forward in a straight line and turned to the left when it went in reverse. That's it. Forward = straight, Reverse = left turn. It was sorta fun, but disappointing compared to what I expected.

That experience told me what NOT to get Hayley. While shopping at Costco, I found her gift. Hayley got an SUV-style remote control vehicle with big tires that can roll over grass, dirt, or hard surfaces and that could turn left or right in either the forward or reverse direction. It has pretty good speed too.

I haven't gotten to drive it yet. I'm afraid that I won't give it back when I do.

RC cars have come a long way. I think we still have a jeep that's either Trevor or Connor's.

The RC planes still crash way too easy. Trevor got one for a grad present, and his cousin already bought the extra wings because they crash so easy. The wings that came with it are kaput after the first flight :P

I had a "Baby-Go-Bye-Bye" which had a programmable base, so not really RC. You had about 40 sets of 3 holes (right straight left) and a pin to put in each set. The trick was trying to figure out how long it would stay on that part of the program, and how far it would turn. 2 Seconds at a time meant a 45-degree turn was 2 or 3 right pins in a row. Once you had it programmed, you'd put the little car top with the "Baby" on, and off she'd go! After a awhile, I left the base alone & just played with the doll & top part of the car.

Hayley's sounds waaaay cooler.
