Hail in The OC

Yesterday morning we had the end of a storm pass through the area. With this storm, we got a large pelting of hail at the house. It is not unusual to get a little bit of hail now and then, but there was so much this time that it looked like a snowfall!

Below are a few pictures of the hail that I took at lunchtime (about 3 hours after it dropped).

Comments:
we had nickle sized hail near here. didn't actually see it. there was an announcment on the emergency broadcast system. you know. the thing that interrupts the radio with a loud beeeeeeeeeeeep and is always followed by this is a test. this is only a test of the emergency broadcast system. if this had been a real emergency. heh. except it wasn't a test.

I've only heard that emergency broadcast system go off for real twice. The first time was for the riots after the Rodney King trial. The second time was fairly recently where they were talking about some thunderstorm and possible flash flood activity in the area.

I have probably missed a lot of them since my guess is that they mostly happen during the daytime. Whatever - my life has not been adversely impacted that I have noticed.

If you scroll down through the pictures kinda fast and miss a title, you see a nice shot of you snowmobiling through the hail in OC.

Ok, so what kind of camera do you have that makes hail so darn purdy?
Our hail here was just ordinary looking, yours looks like it came from some fairy world! Neat purply hail, cool! Especially the third photo down! It's pixie hail!
Cole freaked out a little when it got really loud in our living room!
We have a flat roof in the back with no insulation so hard rain and hail make a lot of noise!

Snowmobiling through the hail sounds fun. Doubt I will ever get to try that!

The camera on the phone is very hit and miss. Almost all of the pictures on my blog are from that camera. Sometimes it does a really nice job. Other times it adds an unreal spin to things (as you have noted).

I get a new phone and therefore new camera next week. We'll see how that one does soon.
